Where is Sparrow Hawk Lodge?

The Lodge is situated just off the R512.

Driving from Johannesburg, you turn left at the T-junction onto the R512 and continue for 6km. Turn left onto Skuilkloof road.  Proceed for approximately 200m and turn right up the hill. Travel approximately 250m up the hill and the gate is on the right hand side.

How many people can Sparrow Hawk Lodge accommodate?

We can accommodate up to 20 people in 7 rooms.

Is the accommodation price "per person" or "per room"?

Accommodation is priced per person per night sharing, or per person per night single. Please note that all our rooms have open plan bathrooms/toilets for consideration when finalizing sleeping arrangements.

Is there a special price for small children / minors?

We do not charge for small children under 10 years of age that stay together with their parents in one of our family rooms, conditional upon the rooms being available at the time of the booking. Children between 10 and 16 are normally charged at half the rate , also sharing rooms with parents and also subject to availability of family rooms.

How much deposit do I have to pay before arrival?

To confirm the booking and ensure the rooms are reserved, we expect a 50% deposit with the balance paid on or before the date of arrival. We also have card facilities at the Lodge.

What are the booking in and departure times?

Booking in is from 14h00 until 19h00 and check-out is by 10h00.

Does Sparrow Hawk Lodge take credit cards?

We have a cash point at the lodge and accept credit and debit cards, cash and EFT’s.

What facilities does Sparrow hawk Lodge offer?

Central area: The central area has a television, couches, a ping pong table and a large braai area with benches and a bar table.  There is a swimming pool with loungers just off the main area.

Rooms: The seven rooms each have a double bed and some of the rooms can cater for a family with two beds in the room. There are no televisions or aircon in the rooms.  The rooms each have an en suite bathroom (shower, hand basin and toilet), hot water, electricity, plug points and mosquito nets.

Tranquil surroundings: Sparrow Hawk Lodge is situated on the hills overlooking Hartebeespoort dam with magnificent views and breathtaking sunsets.

Cellular: There is cellular reception at the lodge.

Wifi: Unfortunately we do not have wifi, but free Wifi is available at the Wimpy approximately 2km away from the lodge.

Note: The Lodge is completely self catering.

Do you serve breakfast?

As a self catering facility, we do not serve any meals. 

Our well-equipped, communal kitchen area is open to all guests who want to make use of the fridge or other facilities in the kitchen.

For those who do not wish to cook their own meals, there are various restaurants, take aways and pubs within 3-5km from the lodge.

Are there barbeque/braai facilities?

Yes, there is a large outside sit around braai/barbeque facility that’s also good for bonfires after the meal. There is also a large well equipped communal kitchen with all cooking facilities incl pots, pans, plates, cups and cutlery.

Do you serve alcohol?

The Lodge does not have a liquor license and therefor we do not sell alcohol to the public.  Guests are welcome to bring their own refreshments to the Lodge.

Does Sparrow Hawk Lodge have camping facilities?

Unfortunately we do not have camping facilities, but in the event of a large function, party or wedding, special accommodation arrangements are made.

What do we need to bring along?

Bedding and linen is supplied as well as bath towels. Please bring swimming towels, refreshments and food supplies. Each room has tea/coffee making facilities and a bar fridge.
DSTV is available in the main entertainment area on a hotel bouquet (Not Full DSTV).

We have a dart board in the entertainment area but please bring your own darts if you want to make use of this facility.

Are there cleaning services?

The rooms are cleaned before arrival and after departure. The rooms are not serviced during the guest’s stay unless by special arrangement and for group bookings only.

Is there a supermarket and restaurants/bars close to the Lodge?

There is a SPAR and many restaurants/bars within approx. 2km from the Lodge.

What activities are close to the Lodge?

Activities within 5-35kms from us include: The New Lion Safari Park, White water rafting at Paddle Power, Zipline at Amanzingwe, Game Drives at Glen Afric, Horse Riding at Redstone Estate, 4 x 4 driving academy, Para-gliding facilities including lessons, Bow shooting range, Golf course/Driving range  and  Picnic/fishing/boat launching areas on the banks of Hartebeespoort dam to name a few.

Then a short drive to the other side of Hartebeespoort Dam and one will find a Cable Car, Hot Air Ballooning, a Zoo, Floating restaurant, Art Galleries, Elephant and Monkey Sanctuary, Cheese factory, Health Spas and more.

When is the best time to visit South Africa?

Warmer weather is from September to April and colder climate is from May to August. Summers tend to be quite hot, with daytime temperatures hovering around 30ºC (86ºF). Both seasons have their attractions, with pool time essential in Summer, and Fireplace time essential in Winters ! (but please don’t forget to bring your own firewood and firelighters)
